How the calculation works
compare-at price = current price / (1 - target discount)
Example
- Current price:
$100 - Target discount:
20% - Required compare-at price:
$125
Why adding 20% is not the same
If the current price is $100 and the compare-at price is $120, the displayed discount is only about 16.67%, because the percentage difference is calculated relative to the compare-at price.

Compare-at price is a reference or display price. It is not a Shopify discount code or automatic discount. Shopify Discounts work separately and may still apply to the current selling price.
